Our CEO Paul Gordon speaks with Kylee Stone from the Uncharted Leader podcast, in a 5-part series taking listeners through hard decisions made easy, in a step-by-step guide to strategic decision-making.

Episode five focuses on the Decision Thinking principle: Intangible and tangible value.

In this final episode of the series, Paul and Kylee consider what makes a decision outcome ‘good or bad’ and how people commonly categorise the value by which they make their decisions.   They discuss tangible metrics like money, revenue and sales growth which are often the go to for people to rely on making business decisions.  Yet the value in intangible things such as culture, emotional wellbeing, and reputation are often neglected as they are considered too hard to measure or evaluate.

Paul shares his experience with organisational leaders making strategic decisions based on the tangible data alone, with some of the ‘softer’ metrics viewed in a one-dimensional way, if at all.

Paul and Kylee discuss how to take all value into consideration, considering the value from the perspective of the stakeholder, having their idea of value represented and being transparent about what you really care about not just what you think you should care about.
